Claudio Costa
01.08.2002
by Paolo Lorenzi
There is a phrase that strikes and remains impressed by this book, a phrase that shows the boundary between the reader deep and its author, between the universe of knowledge, events experienced and anecdotes that embodies Claudio Costa, and the story short, mostly fragments of races, newspaper articles and television images, which the enthusiast knows: "I am the guardian of so many memories. Some have names. Others are known only to me and to the many nameless heroes I cured ". The professional life of Dr. Costa is tightly linked to that of the heroes, as he calls them, who oversaw and helped us become champions and remain so. A friend, a guardian angel as they call them, the pilots who knew how to get to know, the people he braided his medical profession. He knew them all because everyone, sooner or later, have had to resort to his care. And all he could reveal new and unknown aspects. In writing this book Claudio Costa has opened a world of exception, passion, courage but also of suffering. Each of the great champions of the sport has dedicated a portrait, offering new aspects: Agostini, Hailwood, Read, Roberts, Sheene, and later Gardner, Lawson, Mamola, Rainey and Doohan.
